Just a little over 30 hours left to be a part of GIANT SLOTH, starring Paul Giamatti, Kate McKinnon, Scott Aukerman, and more!

We’re already heading into production, starting with recording the actors and shooting interviews and “making of” footage. Above are Paul Giamatti on a balcony in Brooklyn, waxing nostalgic about his childhood museum experiences. Below that, a picture of our sound guru PK Hooker, fresh off of making Bumblebee talk in Transformers 4, setting levels to record Paul G and Kate McKinnon.

Pledge today to get the film, the featurette detailing how we’re making this whole production, the book crammed with production art, the script, and behind the scenes shots… and much more! And every pledge moves us closer to even more unlocked rewards!

have you ever seen a better combo than actor william katt and cartoonist/filmmaker paul hornschemeier’s portrait of katt as THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO? i’m stoked i captured this moment and just as stoked to share with you all! BIG WOW! COMICFEST, sunday, may 17, 2014, SAN JOSE CONVENTION CENTER. photos by chris anthony diaz

by the way, have a look at paul’s KICKSTARTER for GIANT SLOTH, his upcoming animated short with paul giamatti as the lead voice actor, which has 14 days left as of tonight. it’s a worthwhile endeavor to support and get some nice rewards at every pledge level:

This is easily one of the best moments of my career. Not so much for the signature, or the photo-op, but for the bigger picture of how this all came to be…

I grew up watching and dearly loving a show many of us know, The Greatest American Hero, that was a strange confluence of science fiction, superheroes, and secret agents… the sort of mashup of pop culture with which I would become obsessed as I grew older (one of the first comic books I loved was Godzilla in the wild west). The strange connections between otherwise separated worlds never ceased to amaze and inspire me. What new ways could you combine things to create a new story? To tell something you didn’t have the words or art to tell before?

Then I was fortunate enough to stumble into a profession of making stories and art, making exactly those sort of mashups as a means to express whatever was buzzing inside my head.

So late one night, on this drawing blog, I drew a portrait of the hero of that show from my childhood. And then – because of technology that connects billions of people, technology that would have seemed like science fiction to that child I used to be – a fan was able to reach out to me about that drawing. He bought that artwork. I shipped it across the country to him. And more than a year after I’d drawn this with colored pencils in my sketchbook, he took the artwork to William Katt, the actor from that show. And now I have a signed photograph from that actor here in my studio, on the other side of the country.

The world is big and crazy and beautiful and weird and complicated. It gets me down at times, as it does us all. But the connections from one point in culture to another, from one person to another, can be nothing short of awesome and awe-inspiring.

Believe it or not.

(A million thank yous to Chris Anthony Diaz for documenting all this and being one of the many, many wonderful connections my career has allowed.)
